Birth of a Hero

(ARZ)
August 1, 2009
Steve Adams and Merrill Hale
This album needed a song with glockenspiel, so we wrote a song around the mighty instrument! All Hale the Glockenspiel!!
I look out on the school yard, and remember that day
It happened so long ago, but it changed me in every way
I want to go back in time, and undo what I did
This decision was based on a lie, and it cost me but big

He was taller than us, a strapping boy, and as mean as they come
He terrorized the courtyard and picked the kids apart one by one
One day I saw his shadow loom, a towering nemesis
I looked up at him, and he at me, and he said, “taste my fist”

What was I to do?
What should I have said?
I was taught to get along
To pass the buck instead

As I look in the mirror, I see a middle-aged man who’s given up
Indoctrinated, socialized, civilized, I’ve learned to just suck up
Something’s growing, something big, a feeling I can’t control
Watch out world ol’ Jimbo here ain’t gonna take this any more

What was I to do?
What should I have said?
I was taught to get along
I should’ve kicked his ass instead

I am back, I am just
I am right, I am a hero
I defend those who cannot fight back
I am their hero

Welcome to the office world, filled with petty tyrants and rules
Push a paper and a pen, to the “man” we’re just fools
One day I say his shadow loom, a towering nemesis
I looked up at him, and he at me, I said “taste my fist”

What was I to do?
What should I have said?
I was taught to get along
So I kicked his ass instead

I am back, I am just
I am right, I am a hero
I defend those who cannot fight back
I am their hero

I take on the bad guys and kick them to hell
I stand by my word
Defend my cause, join me now
Rise up, embrace the absurd
